Rep. Haley Stevens, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 11th district since 2019, has used her social media platform to address issues affecting Michigan’s auto industry and American workers in recent days.
On July 24, 2025, Stevens criticized former President Donald Trump’s trade agreement with Japan, stating, “Let’s be clear, Donald Trump’s trade deal with Japan is a bad deal for Michigan. It sells out our auto workers, ignores labor protections, and continues a reckless tariff approach that creates uncertainty for Michigan manufacturers. I keep asking, where’s the deal for Michigan?”
Continuing her focus on labor and trade policy, Stevens posted on July 25: “American workers shouldn’t lose their jobs because the Chinese Communist Party is exploiting a loophole in our trade laws. I introduced the No Chinese Cars Act to protect our auto workers and close the door on unfair competition, because America’s auto industry should lead the”
Later that same day, she highlighted a visit to PHINIA, an automotive components provider. Stevens wrote: “It was great to visit PHINIA today and see their leadership as a components provider! We discussed the importance of USMCA, remanufacturing, and my critical minerals bill.”
Stevens’ comments come amid ongoing debates about U.S. trade policy and its impact on domestic manufacturing jobs—issues particularly relevant in Michigan due to its significant role in the automotive sector. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), referenced by Stevens during her PHINIA visit, replaced NAFTA as North America’s primary trade pact and includes provisions intended to support U.S. manufacturing.
Born in Rochester Hills in 1983 and currently residing in Birmingham, Stevens holds a BA from American University. She succeeded Dave Trott as representative of Michigan’s 11th district in 2019.
