Rep. Haley Stevens, U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 11th district since 2019, has announced new legislative efforts aimed at addressing housing affordability and protecting Michigan’s auto industry, according to recent posts on her official Twitter account.
On May 7, Stevens stated, “Too many Michiganders are finding it impossible to buy their first home. That’s not sustainable. I’m introducing a bill to create tax-free savings accounts for first-time homebuyers.” The following day, she reiterated the challenges faced by Michigan families in the current economic climate: “At a time when everything’s expensive, it’s especially impossible to afford a home. Michigan families spend more and more on rent each year and don’t get enough in return. It’s time to give first-time homebuyers a leg up and more opportunities to save for their future.”
In another post on May 8, Stevens addressed concerns over international trade and its impact on local jobs: “While Donald Trump heads to China next week to meet with the people who want to decimate Michigan’s auto industry, I’m fighting to keep Chinese cars out of the United States and strengthen our national security. My No Chinese Cars Act is about protecting jobs across Michigan and”
Stevens’ advocacy comes as she continues her tenure in Congress after replacing Dave Trott in 2019. Born in Rochester Hills in 1983 and currently residing in Birmingham, Stevens holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University.
Her recent legislative proposals reflect ongoing debates about housing affordability nationwide as well as persistent concerns over foreign competition within key U.S. industries such as automotive manufacturing.
