To Anthony Zora of Commerce Township, his belief in the Catholic faith is steadfast.
“I do stand by my Catholic religion, and that will never change,” said the father of three school-aged children who currently attend public school.
“Jesus comes first. We are pro-life... Traditional marriage, we believe in that. We believe in going to church. We believe in taking the Eucharist, catechism, baptism, holy communion. A lot of these things are so important to us."
He said he would not support a presidential candidate who is opposed to school choice.
“I do not support that at all,” Zora said.
Democratic nominee Joe Biden has express opposition to federal funding for for-profit charter schools, U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos told Fox News.
“Parents are demanding more choices today as their schools across the country are not serving them and the needs of their students,” DeVos told Fox News. “So the demand for school choice and giving parents the control for their kids' future is continuing to grow. And it's a really important point in time.”
If school choice is banned, public schools will teach students their own way, which wouldn't include religion, according to Zora.
“As a Catholic, reading the Bible is important to me and my family,” he said.
A Christian from Iraq, he is opposed to his children being taught about the Muslim religion in school. “I’m sorry, but not in my home. We really hold our Catholicism very strong.”
It is hard for the family to counteract what children are taught at school, said Zora. “That child is going to say, ‘Wait a minute, Mom, Dad, but my teacher says it’s okay to do that'."
Zora would like to end abortion in the United States. “I think every human life means a lot. Every life matters, too. We’re going to keep on praying... and never give up.”
Zora views the upcoming election as extremely important. “We are working very hard for our kids’ futures,” he said.
