Convention of States Michigan has issued the following press release:
On Thursday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m., the Michigan Convention of States (MI COS) team will present at the Groveland Township Hall 4695 Grange Hall Road, Holly.
Chester (Chet) Grant will lead a town hall discussing the Convention of States organization, his experience as a grassroots patriot, and how you can get involved in the movement too. Additionally, State Grassroots Coordinator & Navy Veteran Bill Pacey will speak about the MI COS.
Article V of the US Constitution grants state legislatures the right to call a Convention of States. Convention of States Action is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging states to stand up and curtail the runaway power of the federal government. The organization gives us, as concerned citizens, the opportunity to demand change.
This opportunity is exactly what drew Chet Grant to the Michigan chapter of COS Action.
Bothered by the “BS” in the government, Chet discovered COS as an opportunity to “fix” things. He discovered an organization of responsibility and clear communication with an amazing constitutional way to save America from the tyranny of an out-of-control federal government.
Chet recently became the Regional Captain for Region 3. His reasons for taking this role include the amazing free training he’s received through COS University (accessible to COS volunteers) and working with the State Grassroots Coordinator, Bill Pacey, and the prior Regional Captain for Region3, Pat McCray. Chet knows he will make mistakes sometimes, but that his leaders will kindly correct him. He stated that the “most important thing to remember (about mistakes) is that they’re ok as long as you learn from them and try not to repeat them.”
You can also become involved by signing the petition for Michigan’s state legislature to support a Convention of States. Grant decided to volunteer as a COS Regional Captain in part, due to his hopes for, and concerns about America’s future.
Chet has a passion for mentoring. He has been a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, as a high school robotics coach and working in his local community. He is retired now and loves to hunt and fish in northern Michigan. But he still wants to make a difference.
In COS, he said that he found an opportunity to make a difference! Chet said, “This will be a new experience of service and leadership since my career was mostly in industrial organizations.” Chet likes to read the writings of authors such as Stephen Covey and Dr. W. Edwards Deming who expressed a passion for spending their lives trying to keep America from committing suicide. Chet also has this passion.
Chet Grant and the COS organization share many hopes and concerns, especially those about the federal government. The Convention of States organization aims to limit the federal government in three ways: 1) make common-sense restrictions to federal spending, 2) give stolen power back to the states, and 3) impose federal term limits. As a representative of MI COS, Grant hopes that his town hall will help to articulate his convictions and bring more people together for this cause. So far, the organization’s resolution has passed in 15 states; 34 states must pass identical applications to create a “Convention.” When an amendment is proposed, 38 states will need to ratify any changes to the Constitution for them to become law.
Chet brings a rich background of professional experience to nurture his region to facilitate the recruiting and development of volunteers, followed by helping others to be part of an informed community. He looks forward to engaging legislators as well, thus serving the COS mission: “Build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists.”
If Chet Grant’s words ring true with you, you may just be a grassroots patriot waiting for an opportunity. Please visit www.conventionofstates.com to sign the petition and volunteer. The link generates an email to your State House Representative and your State Senator. If you are not sure if you signed it, feel free to sign it again. Signing a second time does not spoil anything with your petition.
