Walled Lake Consolidated Schools recently issued the following announcement.

As previously communicated, all of the Walled Lake Schools are closed today, December 2. As a follow up and out of a continued abundance of caution, the Walled Lake Consolidated School District will be closed again on Friday, December 3. These closures come in response to several social media threats related to additional school violence across Oakland County. Although there appear to be no credible threats at this time, we are pausing instruction again tomorrow, December 3 out of an abundance of caution.

These closures also include after school events, activities, rentals and more December 2nd through the 5th:

  • ALL after school events, activities and practices are cancelled. This includes any previously scheduled facility rentals.
  • Coaches, club organizers, and program leaders are not to have any on or off-site meetings or practices of any kind.
  • WLCSD students are not permitted to participate in any school related out-of-district events or activities as well.
If any coach, club or program would like to hold voluntary, virtual meetings for students and families, that will be permitted at this time.

These after school activity and event cancellations include, but are not limited to:

  • Tonight’s Collage Concert at Walled Lake Northern High School
  • Tonight’s Board of Education meeting at our Educational Services Center (Next meeting Thursday, January 6, 2022)
  • Tomorrow’s optional Oakland County Health Department vaccination clinic at Walled Lake Central High School
Please look for emails from your child’s principal regarding the rescheduling of building events and continue to visit the district website, www.wlcsd.org for more information and updates.

For families seeking a way to talk with their children about this week’s events, you may find the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) website to be a helpful starting point. Non-specific safety conversations may be more appropriate for younger students and may begin with presentations such as these found on the Johns Hopkins site for K-2 grade and 3-5 grade safety in schools.

We take all incidents involving student and staff safety seriously and appreciate our partnerships with local law enforcement officials. We ask students, parents, and community members to report all suspicious or threatening activity to law enforcement and/or school/district administration immediately.
