Walled Lake Consolidated Schools recently issued the following announcement.
Wendy Turner, retired Sarah Banks Middle School counselor received a Golden Apple Award at the Jan. 6 Board of Education Meeting.
Ms. Turner was nominated by Wixom Elementary teacher and Sarah Banks Middle School parent, Jennifer Mifsud because Wendy goes above and beyond every single day in her work by guiding and helping EVERY child. She meets kids where they are and helps them to learn, grow and be the best they can be. Wendy is always trying strategies that will help her students. If they need a break, a hug, a kind word or a safe place she is there for them.
Ms. Mifsud added, “Wendy was the most influential adult at Sarah Banks to both of my kids. My family would not be where they are today without the counseling and guidance that she provided. Words do not do justice to what she means to us.”
Michelle Kalhorn, principal at Sarah Banks Middle School, said, “Wendy is a true advocate for students and families. She dedicated 30 years to serving the students and families of Walled Lake Schools and did an incredible job during her time as a teacher, counselor, and coach. She worked tirelessly to build relationships with students and families, to support her colleagues, and always kept doing what is best for kids as her driving force in her work. She is a true inspiration to those who have worked with her. Wendy made the decision to retire after 30 years and she will be missed by all who have had the privilege to work with her.”
