South Lyon Community Schools Education: 8,479 students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 8,479 students enrolled in South Lyon Community Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 0% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.4% of them were boys, and 49.6% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 80.8% of the South Lyon Community Schools total enrollment.

South Lyon Community Schools covers 13 schools within Oakland County with its main office in South Lyon. Among them, South Lyon High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,302 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
