In a show of its ongoing fiscal strength and its ability to meet its financial promises, Oakland County has kept its AAA bond rating for the 22nd consecutive year.
Oakland County Administrator David Coulter along with his team recently traveled to Chicago to attend bond rating meetings with Moody’s Investors Service and Standard and Poor's.
“My administration is committed to balanced budgets, fiscal responsibility, and moving Oakland County forward together," Coulter told The Oakland Press. "That is what my team presented to S&P and it is great to now have their validation with the highest rating possible – AAA. This rating is positive news for the residents of the county because it allows us to cut the price tag of government."
The ratings will allow the county to finance two bonds. The $18.5 million Oakland County Building Authority Bond will provide the funds needed for significant upgrades to OAKWIN, the county's public safety radio system, and the $3.9 million Evergreen Farmington Sewage Disposal System Bond will help fund a Water Resources Commissioner project for Farmington Hills.
Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner told The Oakland Press that the bonds will "save taxpayers real money and shows the continued importance of fiscal responsibility."
