Oakland County has taken serious measures after experiencing its first COVID-19 death, according to MLive.
The county has shut down shopping malls and playgrounds. The county executive, David Coulter, also announced that the L. Brooks Patterson Building Conference Center, located at 2100 Pontiac Lake Rd. in Waterford, will be closed until further notice.
The first passing in the county, a 50-year-old man, marked the fourth in the state. He is said to have had underlying health issues before passing at Ascension Macomb-Oakland hospital recently.
Coulter said, “This could be any of us. This could be your husband or brother or coworker. This only magnifies, to me, the seriousness of where we are in this pandemic. We need to do all measures that we can to contain the spread of this virus and make sure the number of people who contract the virus and ultimately the number of fatalities is as low as we can possibly make it.”
Public Health Officer Leigh-Anne Stafford has worked with Coulter in announcing the closure of public areas in Oakland County. As of March 31, COVID-19 cases have reached almost 1600, along with 70 deaths, according to Michigan.gov.
