Eric Gerwin, a Wixom resident and member of the St. James parish, said Vice President Kamala Harris would make Michigan a "dangerous place for legal U.S. citizens to live" if she were to be elected this fall.

"A wide open border invites criminals into our community," Gerwin said. “We need to protect our children and families from those with bad intentions.”

“Harris will just continue the Biden border policies and make Michigan a more dangerous place for legal U.S. citizens to live," he told Novi Times.

Michigan’s communities are being disturbed by a Chilean crime ring who looted numerous homes earlier this year while families were away on vacation.

These crime rings operate in groups of three to six people and target high end homes that back up to golf courses, woods, or any land that they might be able to cross undetected. The burglars have found ways to jam wireless home alarms, disarming the system.

"The Chilean gangs have been hitting us very hard," said Oakland Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "They are super well-trained when they get here – highly organized. They look like ninjas – they're all masked up, gloves. They each have a backpack with their particular set of tools for their job in the burglary."

This is not the first time the U.S. has seen this type of burglary conducted by Chilean nationals. All of these nationals that have been caught came to the United States through a VISA waiver program.

"That doesn't mean they can't visit but they just have to get a regular visa, which comes with a little more scrutiny,” continued Sheriff Bouchard.

It is estimated that there are over 100 active teams of Chilean nationals across the United States right now.
