Rep. Haley Stevens, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 11th district, has recently expressed her views on several significant issues through a series of tweets. Born in Rochester Hills, Michigan, and a graduate of American University, Stevens replaced Dave Trott in Congress in 2019.
On January 21, 2025, Rep. Stevens addressed the topic of birthright citizenship by stating that it is "a right, protected by the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution." She emphasized that "an executive order cannot change the Constitution" and thanked Michigan’s Attorney General for their efforts in safeguarding these rights. "Birthright citizenship is a right, protected by the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."
Later that day, she commented on policy measures concerning competition with China. She criticized certain policies as not being beneficial or competitive and advocated for "strategic restrictions and smart investment" to reduce costs and support American workers in producing future technologies and products. She stressed the importance of maintaining competitiveness globally for American car sales. "It’s not good policy and doesn’t make us more competitive with China..."
In another tweet posted at the same time, Rep. Stevens highlighted potential challenges faced by Michigan's auto suppliers due to global economic competition. She pointed out that certain policies could hinder their ability to compete effectively on an international scale. "It would make it significantly harder for Michigan’s auto suppliers to compete in the global economy."
