Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson wants the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to receive adequate funding for the upcoming fiscal year.

“This year, election officials across the country stepped up to the plate to conduct a fair, secure and transparent election under extraordinary circumstances,” Benson said, according to Michigan.gov. “It is vital to our democracy that we ensure election workers have the resources they need to do their jobs, and that starts with allocating sufficient funding.”

Benson was one of 17 secretaries of state across the country who wrote a letter to congressional leaders on Dec. 17 requesting robust funding for the EAC.

The letter, posted on Michigan.gov -- addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy -- asks for funding for a variety of initiatives, such as reviewing COVID-19-related election procedures, implementing a national training program for election officials, improving election security and implementing a voter help desk team.
