Nayal Maktari has been named the new principal at Clifford H. Smart Middle School. He assumed his new role for the 2022-23 school year effective July 7.
“I am honored to have been named Clifford H. Smart Middle School Principal this upcoming school year," said Maktari. "It will be my goal this upcoming school year to continue the many wonderful things our school has done in the past, but also work collaboratively with our great staff in identifying areas that have room for improvement.”
Maktari joins the Clifford H. Smart community after previously serving as principal of Pleasant Lake Elementary School for the past 11 years. Prior to joining Walled Lake Schools, Maktari worked at the high school and middle school level as both an administrator and a teacher. Maktari also brings a great deal of familiarity to the position as a Clifford H. Smart Middle School parent.
“The past 11 years at Pleasant Lake Elementary have been nothing short of amazing and I will always cherish the relationships we’ve built over that time period. We have an amazing staff at PLE and they will continue to provide every opportunity for students to reach their academic and social potential, while building on our community’s positive and caring culture,” said Maktari.
“Nayal Maktari is a veteran principal in WLCSD, and he has deep roots in the Clifford Smart community,” said Superintendent Kenneth Gutman. “He will provide exemplary leadership there on behalf of every child, every day.”
Maktari replaces Dave Tucker, who retired at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
