Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is sending mixed signals about the COVID-19 pandemic by blaming the public for rising numbers of cases, then claiming credit when numbers fall, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
“In both cases, Whitmer has either blamed residents or praised her own actions, without offering evidence or data to back it up,” Tom Gantert wrote in Michigan Capitol Confidential.
The writer said the Thanksgiving holiday was a good example of how Whitmer alternated between blaming and self-praise.
“We all know the next two months are going to be hard. Too many people traveled for Thanksgiving, and we will see our numbers increase very likely because of it,” Whitmer said on Dec. 1, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
Then on Dec. 15, she said, “What we’re doing is working. It shows that a lot of Michiganders did the right thing over Thanksgiving.”
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) had issued an order before the Thanksgiving holiday limiting home gatherings to only ten people or two households.
