Rep. Haley Stevens, U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 11th district since 2019, posted a series of statements on social media addressing Labor Day, presidential powers, and the importance of science in policymaking.
On September 1, 2025, Stevens recognized Michigan's workforce in a post marking the holiday: "Happy Labor Day, Michigan! Our state is home to the finest workers in the country— leaders in the fight for fair wages, strong benefits, and safe workplaces. That spirit built Michigan into the manufacturing powerhouse of the world. Today, and every day, we stand proudly with you".
The following day, she addressed former President Donald Trump's use of federal authority: "Trump abused his power by deploying the National Guard against the will of the Governor. The courts just called it what it was: unlawful. That’s why I introduced the Stop Trump’s Abuse of Power Act to make sure presidents can't use the military for their personal agenda." The statement referenced recent court rulings concerning executive authority.
On September 3, 2025, Stevens reiterated her commitment to evidence-based policy: "I’ve spent my entire career standing up for science and innovation. Trump undermining science for political gain is dangerous and another example of his abuses of power. I will keep protecting facts, evidence, and science."
Stevens has represented Michigan’s 11th District since replacing Dave Trott in 2019 and has focused on issues including labor rights and scientific integrity throughout her tenure. Born in Rochester Hills in 1983 and currently residing in Birmingham, she holds a BA from American University.
