The Suburban Collection Showcase in Michigan has been converted into the second field hospital dedicated to treating people with the COVID-19 virus.
Described as an alternative care facility by the state, it took 15 days for HKS Inc. workers to convert the center and it has boosted local efforts on dealing with this pandemic, according to MLive.
Opened on April 24, the field hospital was inspired by TCF Center, previously known as Cobo Hall. The TCF Center is the first field hospital in Detroit and launched on April 10.
According to state health leaders, St. Joseph Mercy Health System and Ascension Michigan will be allowed to take their patients to the Suburban Collection Showcase field hospital, as they are jointly managing the facility. Approved transfers from other health care facilities can also be admitted to this hospital.
The Suburban Collection Showcase center is capable of holding 250 beds. Together with the TCF Center, the two field hospitals offer 1,220 beds.
