Farmington Public Safety issued the following announcement on Feb 8.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Farmington Public Safety Department Sergeant Hilton "Zeke" Hyde. Sergeant Hyde was employed with the department from May 1, 1972 to May 1, 2000.
Zeke, as he was referred to around the station and amongst friends, was a role model to many younger officers in the department and epitomized what it meant to be a Farmington Public Safety Officer. He was charismatic, hard working, and fair to everyone he came into contact with. Younger officers could learn a lot simply by watching how Sergeant Hyde performed his duties as a public safety officer day in and day out.
Zeke was also the sports activity director for the department. He absolutely loved sports and organized many sporting activities for the department such as floor hockey, racket ball, basketball, and his favorite sport softball. When he retired in 2000, he was honored by the city council with the naming of a softball field at Drake Park after him, named "HYDE FIELD". Zeke created a lot of fun memories for everyone on that field over the years.
Zeke was a well-liked and respected member of the public safety department team. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sergeant Hilton "Zeke" Hyde's entire family as they grieve his loss.
