Oakland Schools Honored with SET SEG MSAFE Award for Workplace Safety Efforts

Waterford, MICH. – Oakland Schools has recently been selected to receive the SET SEG Michigan Safety Awareness and Facilities Excellence (MSAFE) Award. The MSAFE Awards are presented to honorary public school districts across the State of Michigan that are members of the SET SEG Property/Casualty Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund as a special way to recognize and reward their proactive efforts to protect their school community.

Oakland Schools was recognized for their outstanding claims records and work to protect and preserve the safety and security of their buildings and grounds. SET SEG Loss Control Consultant Darlene Wood credits the staff with keeping a well-maintained campus and reducing risk factors that may cause an injury or accident.

“Oakland Schools ensures the safety of their staff and students by employing a preventive maintenance program for their buildings and vehicles, implementing regular training for employees, and following standards for best practices,” said Wood. “Oakland’s commitment to the upkeep of their school grounds has led to a low number of claims in recent years. Oakland Schools is proactive about safety.”

Oakland Schools has been a SET SEG member district for 41 years. The Property/Casualty Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund are member-owned and tailored specifically to meet the needs of Michigan’s public education community. The Pool and Fund are entities of SET SEG, an East Lansing-based company that provides risk management and benefit services to more than 550 school districts, ISDs, and community colleges across the state.
