Forty-two WLCSD Girl Scouts honored at Highest Awards Ceremony

Forty-two elementary school students from across Walled Lake Consolidated Schools were honored Thursday night at Walled Lake Northern at the first annual Girls Scouts High Award Recognition Ceremony.

Fourteen girls in three different scout levels received Summit Award Pins, which are earned by completing three or more National Leadership Journeys. Adalyn Martin (Dublin), Alena Mallett (Loon Lake), Autumn Siero (Loon Lake), and Stella Rosinski (Loon Lake) were honored as Daisy’s. Loon Lake’s Allison Baldwin, Dorothy Stewart, Katie Palmer, and Merabella Minoletti received their pins at the Brownies level. Junior Summit Awards were earned by Brennan Larson (Commerce), Claire Stewart, Elizabeth Perczak (Loon Lake), Ellison Brandon (Commerce), Sadie Weber (Commerce), and Zoe Derminer (Loon Lake).

Three troops from the District also had girls receive Bronze Awards. These Highest Awards are given to Girls Scouts who display leadership while engaging in group projects that benefit their community.

Commerce Elementary’s Troop 76314 was recognized with three groups of girls earning Bronze Awards. Aveah Harper, Brennan Larson, and Ellison Brandon created 11 themed Fairy Gardens and placed them around North Star Reach Camp, which were used to make a scavenger hunt for its special needs campers. Alexandria Dziak, Amaria Lockett, and Sadie Weber built and painted three brand new donations boxes for the Oakland County Animal Shelter. The girls also got to tour the shelter and spend time with the animals that their donation boxes will be helping. Finally, Lyla Ranger, Makenna Darling, Mea O’Rear, and Zoey Crynick set up a donation drive and delivered 40 cinch bags, as well as raised $400, for the FirstStep Women’s Shelter. The four girls did research about women’s shelters as well, learning about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships throughout their project.

Keith Elementary’s Troop 76069 came together to help its school and community by creating and building a seed library and kindness rock garden. The library has been filled with a variety of seeds including fruits, vegetables and flowers that Keith families and the community have access to start and maintain their own gardens. The kindness rock garden surrounds the seed library at Keith Elementary. The girls painted rocks which have pick me up and kind words on them for students to read. They hope for more rocks to be added to “grow” the kindness at Keith Elementary. The Girl Scouts in Troop 76069 that received Bronze Awards are Alyssa Dayton, Ashley Baibak, Ava Keller, Charlotte Mendenhall, Collins Jordan, Danica Harmsworth, Kensington Jezak, Lela DiDonato, Margaret Halberstadt, Matylina Miller, Sadie Goldman, Shaylee King, Sophia Martin, and Tessa Jenovi.

Hickory Woods Elementary’s Troop 76549 set up a donation drive for the Michigan Humane Society. Aadrita Saha, Arya Godase, Catherine Zimmerman, Cilla Jerin, Madison Murley, Radhika Manga, and Vayla Tilmos collected toys, food, and blankets for several weeks that were donated to help animals in need.

“These girls worked hard to earn badges, journeys, and leadership awards,” said Michelle Brandon, Girls Scouts Service Unit 501 event coordinator. “They spent countless hours doing service projects to give back to their schools and our community.”

“They sold cookies, went to camp, sang songs, learned valuable life skills, and spent time having fun and going on adventures with their sister scouts,” Brandon continued. “The entire 501 Service Unit is so unbelievably proud of all of our Girls Scouts, especially those being recognized for going above and beyond to help Make the World a Better Place!”

There are 388 Girls Scouts registered in Service Unit 501, which serves Walled Lake Consolidated Schools.
