Farmington Public Safety Director Ted Warthman announced his retirement earlier this month after more than 27 years with the Farmington Public Safety Department. Director Warthman’s last day with the City will be Friday, Dec. 2.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Director Warthman,” said City Manager David Murphy. “Ted’s been the consummate Public Safety Director; he’s professional, caring and positive. He will be missed.” Murphy added that the department will be left in great hands, as the plan is to promote Deputy Director Bob Houhanisin.
Director Warthman started working with Farmington Public Safety in the summer of 1995 as a reserve officer/firefighter before being hired full time. He appreciated that his job with Farmington Public Safety, regardless of his rank, was different every day, explaining that a new challenge presents itself every day.
It’s the people that Director Warthman will miss the most. “The great Vince Pastue (former Farmington City Manager) told me it’s all about creating relationships and I’ve had the opportunity to do that with the people and groups here in Farmington. I treasure the time. Looking back over the last 27.5 years, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”
The level of professionalism in the Farmington Public Safety Department has always impressed Director Warthman. “The members of this department uphold the pursuit of providing services according to the Farmington Way, which is a fast response time, professional services and going the extra mile in terms of customer services,” he explained.
As he leaves his post with Farmington, Director Warthman hopes people understand that most police officers are good and honest individuals.
Deputy Director Bob Houhanisin will be sworn in as Farmington’s new Public Safety Director at the Dec. 19 City Council Meeting at 7 p.m.
