Learn What to Do in an Emergency Fire Department to offer life-saving CPR, AED and tourniquet training Jan. 19
The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) in cooperation with the Farmington Hills Fire Department is offering an American Heart Association Heartsaver® Class with instruction on CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and “Stop the Bleed” tourniquet training. The cost is $10 for Farmington Hills/Farmington residents and $20 for non-residents. The class will be held on Thursday, January 19 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. in the upstairs training room at Fire Station #4, located at 28711 Drake Road.
“Stop the Bleed” is a national awareness campaign that encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to assist in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. Class participants will receive training in applying wound pressure and using tourniquets.
Should participants require an official American Heart Association Certificate of Training, an additional fee of $20 is required regardless of residential status. Instructions will be emailed on how to register for an electronic certification card that can be printed or accessed online.
Fees are due one week in advance of the January 19 class date to ensure the appropriate student to instructor ratio. Because class spots and payment are secured in advance, fees are non-refundable. Anyone in attendance who has not registered or paid in advance will be asked to register for a future class.
Participants for the American Heart Association Heartsaver® Class must be at least 12 years of age and be physically able to perform CPR/AED, which requires kneeling on the floor and using your arms and hands to perform continuous chest compressions.
