Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC) reported the 2022 solid waste and recycling metrics for the communities it supports, which include Farmington, Farmington Hills, Milford, Milford Township, Novi, South Lyon, Southfield, Walled Lake and Wixom.

The findings, the total recycling rate for the City of Farmington is 47.8 percent; the statewide average recycling rate is only 19 percent. In 2022, Farmington recycled 682 tons of material, reused .13 tons (reused refers to the clothing and household items collected through the Simple Recycling Program) and composted 1,146 tons. Farmington also spent $42 per capita less than the regional average.

Factoring into these metrics is the City’s curbside leaf collection program, which on an average year collects over 3,000 cubic yards of leaves. The curbside leaf collection allows residents to rake their leaves to the city easement adjacent to the street for a vacuum truck to collect them.

The Simple Recycling program collects bags of donated clothes by appointment from resident’s addresses. To arrange a collection residents can call Simple Recycling at 866-835-5068 or visit simplerecycling.com. The previously required special bags are no longer necessary.

RRRASOC provides a variety of recycling services to its member communities, including recycling drop-off centers and household hazardous waste collection events.
