Rep. Haley Stevens, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 11th district since 2019, addressed several economic and policy issues in a series of tweets posted on July 21 and July 22, 2025.
On July 21, Stevens criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), stating that it has resulted in higher health insurance premiums for Michigan families. She wrote, "The damage from Trump’s ACA sabotage is real and Michigan families are paying the price with health insurance premium hikes of up to 17%. No one should have to choose between their health and their bills. I’ll keep fighting to lower costs, protect the ACA, and deliver the".
Later that day, Stevens highlighted concerns over American reliance on Chinese rare earth exports. She noted that increased imports could jeopardize industries both in Michigan and across the United States. In her tweet she stated, "American imports of Chinese rare earth exports are surging, leaving industries across the Michigan and the U.S. at risk.
We can't keep depending on China for these critical materials.
My bill, Unearth America’s Future Act, brings manufacturing back home, lowers costs, and builds".
On July 22, Stevens continued her critique of Trump-era policies by addressing tariffs imposed during his administration. She argued that these measures negatively impacted Michigan's auto industry and workers: "Trump’s shoot-from-the-hip tariffs are HURTING our auto industry and workers.
General Motors lost $1.1B from Trump’s tariffs alone.
That’s real pain for Michigan families in our beloved manufacturing state. We need smart, stable economic policy like my Unearth America’s".
Stevens’ remarks reflect ongoing debates over healthcare costs linked to changes made under previous administrations as well as broader concerns about supply chain vulnerabilities related to rare earth elements—materials crucial for many high-tech industries but largely sourced from China by U.S.-based companies.
Born in Rochester Hills in 1983 and currently residing in Birmingham, Haley Stevens holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University.
