Rep. Haley Stevens, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 11th district since 2019, has recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from federal agency independence to environmental health concerns.
On August 5, 2025, Stevens responded to the dismissal of the Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner by former President Trump. She wrote, "After Trump's outrageous firing of the BLS Commissioner, I'm proud to co-lead legislation that protects the independence of our federal statistical agencies. America’s economic data must be honest, not partisan."
The following day, on August 6, she turned her attention to microplastics and their potential impact on human health. In a post that same morning, Stevens stated, "We eat one credit card every week because of microplastics. These tiny particles have been found in our Great Lakes, our blood, and our organs, yet we don’t know how they harm us. That’s why I introduced the bipartisan Plastic Health Research Act with @RepFrankLucas– so we can".
Later that day, Stevens emphasized her personal connection to environmental issues as a Michigan resident: "As a Michigander, I’ve seen the damage that toxic chemicals like PFAS can do when we don’t act fast enough. Now microplastics are showing up from our water, to our air and even in our bodies. It’s time to understand the health risks."
Stevens was born in Rochester Hills in 1983 and currently resides in Birmingham. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University and began serving in Congress after replacing Dave Trott in 2019.
